Are any CBDs right for my clients and practice?

In our experience there are many levels of understanding and (even) misunderstanding about CBDs and other Hemp-based products.  The material that follows is intended to help Health, Wellness and Fitness Practitioners begin determining if and how CBDs/Hemp products generally, and Path of Purity specifically, may fit with their Professional and Practice Goals.

Recognizing the (likely) variance in knowledge levels among possible readers, it is six-part.

  • Section One is intended for those Practitioners already aware of the benefits of CBDs who are seeking to find the best product.

Section One explains the unique features of Path of Purity.  It also includes an invitation for Health, Wellness and Fitness Professionals to joinPOP Replenishing PCR-CBD’s Affiliate Network.

  • Sections two, three and four are intended for those Practitioners new to, or seeking more information about CBDs.
    • Section Two recognizes that any discussion about CBDs must begin with an understanding of the human Endocannabinoid System (ECS). Section Two therefore explains (perhaps introduces for some) the ECS: a complex signalling network that promotes homeostasis by regulating many of our body’s natural functions including: Mood, Cognition, Memory, Motor Coordination, Motor Control, Appetite, Pain Perception, Immune Response, Temperature, Reproduction, Sleep and Bone Development.  Included is a Compendium of Scientific Studies suggesting the potential benefits resulting from increased ECS activity and efficiency across a range of topics relating to the functions that ECS manages and regulates.
    • Section Three describes the connection between the Endocannabinoid System, Hemp, and CBDs.
    • Section Four cross-references the current NIH database (using the template suggested in the Endocannabinoid System from Section Two) to illustrate the magnitude of research undertaken since the Study was compiled in 2006.

  • Section five is for Professional Practitioners who work with Athletes and Sports Teams.

Section Five is offered to help guide Sports Medicine Practitioners, Athletic Trainers, Strength and Conditioning Coaches, and other Sports/Athletic Therapists who may be considering the use of CBDs with the athletes/teams they care for and are wanting clarity about the rules governing their use.

  • Section six is an invitation to Practitioners.

Section Six is an invitation for interested Health, Wellness and Fitness Professionals to join POP REPLENISHING PCR-CBD’s Affiliate Network in order to begin sharing Path of Purity with patients, clients and/or athletes who rely on them for care and guidance.

Section One

Path of Purity Product Overview

By definition, Phytocannabinoid Rich Hemp Oil Extracts contain all of the requisite 110+ compounds found in Hemp (including CBD, CBDA, CBG, CBN, CBC, THC, Terpenes, Essential Vitamins, Minerals, Omega Fatty Acids, Flavonoids, Chlorophyll, Fiber and Protein Oils etc.) to be classified as Full-Spectrum CBD Hemp Oil.   This is vital since research shows CBDs offer the greatest therapeutic contribution when these 110+ compounds are combined – because the compounds work synergistically to produce an entourage effect in which the therapeutic contribution of the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

Raising the Bar from the Ground Up

Path of Purity is specially-formulated from a proprietary blend of specifically-bred premium Phytocannabinoid Rich Hemp cultivars to produce a superior therapeutic entourage effect. In fact, only a small set of Hemp cultivars contain the superior strains of PCR-CBD Hemp Oil to qualify for Path of Purity’s premium proprietary formulation which exceeds Federal Regulations for Industrial Hemp

This is another very important point, since as Hemp-based CBDs have increasingly-grown in popularity over the last number of years, inferior products (including many synthetic forms) have appeared in the marketplace.  Some of these CBDs use Hemp which has been cross-bred for industrial purposes instead of Hemp of proper medical and/or research grade. Alarmingly, in some cases these products are not only of a lower quality and genetically inferior to Path of Purity, they are often likewise high in pesticides and/or heavy metals.

The best point of all, is Path of Purity’s in-house R&D Team of experts led by a World-renowned Nutraceutical Manufacturer, an Immuno-Pharmacologist MS, PH.D and an Herbalist are working very closely with leading Hemp Producers to continuously improve upon a Product already unmatched in the marketplace.

Amplifying Nature through Science and Bio-Engineering

In addition to using only the highest quality source ingredients, Path of Purity is scientifically- engineered for optimal PCR-CBD bioavailability and absorption, as follows:

  • Path of Purity’s premium Full-Spectrum Phytocannabinoid Rich CBD is administered in a measured and metered dose of 50mg PCR-CBD tablet form. Other Ingredients include: Omega-3 (Alpha-Linolenic Acid); Omega-6 (Linolenic Acid); Omega-9 (Oleic Acid); All Natural Flavoring, Bioperine (Black Pepper).
  • Each tablet is scientifically-engineered with a dual-tier release delivery system:
    • under the tongue release of the first 25mg in 30 seconds of intake,
    • time-release of the remaining 25mg, 3 - 6 hours later.
  • This release is matched to the innate capacity of our CB1 and CB2 receptors to utilize CBDs most effectively and ensure optimal bioavailability.
  • PoP is 100% organic, non-GMO, Gluten-Free, Sugar-Free, Dairy-Free and Vegan.
  • Path of Purity exceeds all Federal Regulations for Industrial Hemp including the content of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC):
    • Federal Regulations: THC must be less-than-point-three-percent (<.3%).
    • Path of Purity: THC less-than-point-zero-three-percent (<.03%)

Point-zero-three-percent expressed as a decimal is .0003 or 3 parts in 10000. This means there is less-than-half-of-one mg (<.50mg) THC in a fifteen hundred mg (1500mg) bottle of Path of Purity. (<1500mg x .0003 = <.45mg).

The chart that follows shows the relationship between Path of Purity’s PCR-CBD and the human Endocannabinoid System.  See Section Two for more information on ECS.

Section Two

Endocannabinoid System (ECS)

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) manages and regulates many of our body's natural functions including:

  • Mood
  • Cognition
  • Memory
  • Motor Coordination/Control
  • Appetite
  • Pain Perception
  • Immune response
  • Temperature
  • Reproduction
  • Sleep
  • Bone Development

The scope and complexity of these functions, makes ECS a bridge between mind and body and thereby a foundation of emotional and physical performance and health - or conversely (if our ECS is deficient) decline and illness.

What the Endocannabinoid System Does

If you think about it, our Endocannabinoid System may well be our body's most powerful and vital healing and quality of life resource. This is because ECS helps us maintain a stable internal environment despite changes and challenges faced in our external environment. This requires ECS to manage a complex process of neuroprotection, stress recovery, immune balance, and energy regulation (using our body's most complex signalling and neurotransmitter system to deliver instantaneous cellular communication and feedback).

To effect this, the Endocannabinoid System is comprised of a network of two (2) specialized types of Receptors located throughout our body:

  • CB1 receptors found primarily in the brain, nervous system, connective tissues, gonads, glands, and organs; and
  • CB2 receptors, which are primarily found in the immune system as well as the spleen, liver, heart, kidneys, bones, blood vessels, lymph cells, endocrine glands, and reproductive organs.

CB1 and CB2 receptors are embedded in cell membranes and many tissues contain both CB1 and CB2 receptors. Endocannabinoid System receptors are the most abundant receptors found in the brain. Collectively ECS uses this network of receptors much like the "conductor of an orchestra" - signalling receptors from our brain, to our organs, to our connective tissues, to our glands and to our immune cells to adjust to (even) subtle changes in biochemical cues in fluids surrounding each cell.

Whereas a conductor uses a "baton" to signal orchestra members to use different instruments and different movements toward the common goal of producing a great, harmonized sound, ECS uses Endocannabinoids (which it manufactures on demand as needed) to direct different cell types to perform different actions toward the common goal of promoting and regulating homeostasis.

Each Endocannabinoid acts like a "key within a lock" when it interacts with a CB1 or CB2 receptor - causing cells to harmonize and collaborate with other cells toward our body's best outcome.

For example, when we are injured our body's best outcome is to minimize pain and damage caused by the injury while facilitating full recovery as promptly as possible. ECS contributes to this outcome by releasing Endocannabinoids that signal 3 different cell types to undertake 3 different actions:

  1. the injured tissue is "told" to reduce the release of activators and sensitizers;
  2. nerve cells are "told' to stabilize to prevent excessive firing, and
  3. nearby immune cells are "told" to calm to prevent release of pro-inflammatory substances.

This injury example illustrates unique capabilities of Endocannabinoids and our ECS:

  1. Endocannabinoids communicate with and simultaneously coordinate the actions of different cell types - causing them to work collaboratively.
  2. Endocannabinoids are the only Neurotransmitter able to communicate backwards: Neurotransmitters normally flow from presynaptic neurons to postsynaptic neurons. Going in the opposite direction enables Endocannabinoids to deliver feedback to a presynaptic cell. This is fundamental to homeostasis since if a neuron is firing messages too quickly, then endocannabinoids instruct it to slow down by traveling upstream and activating presynaptic CB1 receptors.

What harnessing the power of ECS may enable

Since its discovery in the 1980s, the Endocannabinoid System has been the subject of many scientific studies all over the World to help evaluate ECS potential to positively impact a wide range of health conditions as well as their underlying disease causes and risk factors.

Among the most comprehensive studies we found is: The Endocannabinoid System as an Emerging Target of Pharmacotherapy by Dr. Pal Pacher that was published in 2006.

PAL PACHER, SANDOR BATKAI, and GEORGE KUNOS Laboratory of Physiologic Studies, National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, Pharmacol Rev. 2006 September ; 58(3): 389-462

Among Dr. Pacher's conclusions was the following:

In the past decade, the endocannabinoid system has been implicated in a growing number of physiological functions, both in the central and peripheral nervous systems and in peripheral organs. Modulating the activity of the endocannabinoid system turned out to hold therapeutic promise in a wide range of disparate diseases and pathological conditions, ranging from mood and anxiety disorders, movement disorders such as Parkinson's and Huntington's disease, neuropathic pain, multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury, to cancer, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, stroke, hypertension, glaucoma, obesity/metabolic syndrome, and osteoporosis, to name just a few.

Dr. Pacher's observations resulted from his compilation of a highly-detailed and highly-technical compendium of studies describing how helping the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) manage and regulate the vital body functions it manages and regulates could, in turn, affect a wide range of conditions as follows:

Hemp 101

An EXTERNAL KEY to our internal ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM

When the CB1 and CB2 receptors of our ECS are unlocked by Endocannabinoids, powerful physiologic processes are activated causing different types of cells to collaborate and harmonize together - toward the shared goal of achieving our body’s best outcome (e.g. injury recovery) and ultimately restoring and maintaining homeostasis.

Thus a properly functioning ECS is fundamental to good health, improved wellness, fitness and athletic performance.  Conversely a loss of ECS performance is logically a contributor to diminished health, reduced performance and vitality – and ultimately disease.

ECS functions by using Endocannabinoids (those our body manufactures INTERNALLY) to signal ECS receptors.  Fortunately nature has also provided us with an EXTERNAL source of Cannabinoids – found in certain strains/cultivars of the Hemp Plant.

CANNABINOIDS

Cannabinoids are a group of 110+ active chemical compounds which interact with specific CB1 and CB2 receptors throughout the body.  These relationships are shown in ECS Chart presented in Section One.

Here is why the availability of an external source of Cannabinoids holds such promise to contribute positively to achieving health, wellness and fitness goals and what to consider in evaluating any Hemp or CBD product:

  • Taking (external) Cannabinoids supports and bolsters our (internal) Endocannabinoid System by signaling the body to (both) manufacture more endocannabinoids and build more CB1 and CB2 receptors.
  • Having more ECS receptors increases our body’s efficiency in using available Cannabinoids and enhances our baseline of Endocannabinoid activity.
  • The best known Cannabinoid is Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is the only psychoactive Cannabinoid; it should be noted that products with THC concentrations less-than-point-three-percent (<.3%) are non-psychoactive.
  • The second best known Cannabinoid is Cannabidiol (CBD) which as shown in Section Four has been the subject of significant scientific research to measure its potential therapeutic healing properties. It should also be noted the acronym CBD is often used to represent a broader range of products that most often include compounds other than Cannabidiol. This is a very important point to remember because some of these “CBDs” can contain widely-differing concentrations of THC.
  • Cannabinoids are most effective when ALL 110+ compounds are used together because they work synergistically to produce an entourage effect in which the therapeutic contribution of the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
    • This was determined following the development of Isolate CBDs which are produced by separating Cannabidiol from the other 110+ compounds. NOTE: it was originally hypothesized that CBD Isolates would be more potent and effective than Full Spectrum CBD, until independent studies (most notably the Lautenberg Center for General Tumor Immunology in Jerusalem, in 2015) showed Full Spectrum CBD offered higher levels of relief when higher doses were administered but higher doses of CBD Isolate did not.
    • Pure CBD crystals (made through molecular-distillation of Hemp extracts) reduce synergy even more.
  • In short, Full-Spectrum CBDs have been shown to offer the greatest therapeutic contribution. These are produced from a full extraction of the 110+ Cannabinoids needed to produce this entourage effect
  • PHYTOCANNABINOID RICH (PCR) CBD HEMP by definition contains all of these 110+ compounds (including CBD, CBDA, CBG, CBN, CBC, THC <.3%, Terpenes, Essential Vitamins, Minerals, Omega Fatty Acids, Flavonoids, Chlorophyll, Fiber and Protein Oils etc.) to be classified as Full-Spectrum CBD Hemp Oil. When THC content is less-than-point-three-percent (<.3%) there are no psychoactive effects.

Section Four

What The Updated Science Says

At the end of Section Two: the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) we presented a link to the study by Dr. Pal Pacher in which he hypothesized the potential of ECS to: hold therapeutic promise across a wide range of diseases and pathological conditions.

In his report, Dr. Pacher suggested a list of the most likely diseases and conditions that better modulation of ECS held promise to assist.

Believing Dr. Pacher's list a logical template to build upon, POP REPLENISHING PCR-CBD recently conducted a search of the NIH data base for scientific studies which evaluated the probable therapeutic contribution of Cannabidiol in raising Endocannabinoid System (ECS) Performance toward the improvement of the diverse challenges and underlying risk factors suggested by the 2006 Study.

Section Five

CBDs, Athletes and Workplaces

Growing awareness of the human Endocannabinoid System (ECS), coupled with growing understanding of how external Cannabinoids may positively affect both ECS activity level and efficiency has led to the creation of many new products (generally referred to as CBDs).

This is wonderful news for individuals seeking to utilize and enhance their body’s natural recuperative powers. It is likewise wonderful news for the Professionals who help guide others in pursuit of their personal health, wellness and fitness goals.

ATHLETES

A field in which the value of improved ECS performance is self-evident is sports and athletics. Not surprisingly there has been a reported increase in the use of CBDs among athletes as research and testimonials have increased. This trend will logically continue considering the January 1, 2018 removal of Cannabidiol (CBD) from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) List of Prohibited Substances.

In keeping with that expected trend, POP REPLENISHING PCR-CBD believes Path of Purity’s highest quality Phytocannabinoid Rich CBD Hemp Oil source ingredients – combined with its measured and metered 50mg dose tablet form, dual-tier release delivery system and less-than-point-zero-three-percent (<.03%) THC content make PoP a game-changer.

Accordingly POP REPLENISHING PCR-CBD looks forward to the possibility of supporting Sports Medicine Professionals, Athletic Trainers and other Sports/Athletic Therapists in their efforts to keep athletes in the game and at their best. And toward that possible end we encourage ALL to do whatever research is appropriate in deciding if Path of Purity, and/or any CBD is a fit with their respective Professional Care efforts.

In the interest of perspective:

Federal Regulations for Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content in Industrial Hemp: THC less-than-point-three-percent (<.3%).

  • Path of Purity THC content is less-than-point-zero-three-percent (<.03%).
  • Point-zero-three-percent expressed as a decimal is .0003 or 3 parts in 10000. This means there is less-than-half-of-one mg (<.50mg) THC in a fifteen hundred mg (1500mg) bottle of Path of Purity. (<1500mg x .0003 = <.45mg).
  • While this is not a sufficient amount of THC to cause any high effect, and independent laboratory data confirm Limit of Quantitation (LOQ) requirements, PoP has not yet been formally studied for detection in drug testing. Accordingly athletes and all others are cautioned to consult the specific rules of their sport or workplace before taking Path of Purity PCR Hemp Product or any Hemp product.

The Culture of POP REPLENISHING PCR-CBD

Legendary US Olympic Hockey Coach Herb Brooks achieved a miracle in 1980 by causing a group of overwhelmingly-underdog players (many of whom were rivals) to embrace the notion that: the name on the front of the jersey matters a whole lot more than the name on the back.

It’s time North American health care approaches put the patient’s name on the front of the care methodology and stopped fighting over the turf on the back.

I will say from personal experience that when I was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome in 1996 (and couldn’t FALL out of a baseball catcher’s crouch) I didn’t care if the name on the back read Western, Alternative, Holistic, or anything else. The ONLY thing I wanted to hear was EFFECTIVE.

POP REPLENISHING PCR-CBD believes harnessing the power of our Endocannabinoid Systems provides great potential in our quest to find effective ways of improving health, wellness and fitness outcomes and is proud to suggest Path of Purity as a potential key in helping unlock that potential.

We look forward to the possibility of sharing this breakthrough product with you, and those whom you care about, or for.
